Born May 27, 1930, passed away May 28, 2015 at the age of 85.
Perfecta was born on May 27, 1930 in Dolores, Eastern Samar, Philippines. The daughter of Maria Ty and Pedro Geli, she was one of seven children. Like all Visayan families during the Japanese occupation, she lived a cautious but devoted life with her parents and siblings. Her passion was teaching when she was in Dolores. Rather than pursue her degree in the US, she sacrificed her career to care for her children and provide a stable home.
To her children, Perfecta was a guiding light. She set the example of what a good wife and mother should be. She always did her best to be patient with all of her children, all seven of them, which was no easy feat. She tried to carve out quality time with her children and never seemed to tire of doing her duties 24/7: Getting her kids ready for school, cooking them breakfast, making sure they had clean clothing to wear, homework assignments, Catechism, etc. Her children were her pride and joy and she dearly took care of their needs, not wants. When one of her babies would get cranky, she’d soothe him or her down with a special song. Her singing was so calming; it would bring tranquility to a frenzied home.
As for her life with her husband, she set a shining example of the unconditional love required to see a marriage through good times and bad.
Perfecta had tremendous faith as a Catholic and rarely missed Sunday Mass. She volunteered her time and taught Catechism for 3rd and 4th graders at home.
She was a wonderful, caring and loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Perfecta is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ceferino A. Coles, children Rose Marie Chavira, Ceferino Coles Jr. (Heidi); Debra Wilson (Grant); Corazon Coles, Genevieve Gentile (Michael); Carlo Albert Coles (Leonora) and Mary Perfecta Guzman (Gabriel); 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
