Elaine Halvorsen Tenney, 75, passed away July 28, 2015 in Fayetteville. She was born in White Bear Lake, Minnesota to Edward Joseph and Stella Blanch Halvorsen, and was a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church where, because of her love for music, she sang in the choir.

Our mother loved a lot of things. Her first love was her husband, Chuck, and her family. She enjoyed cooking, except on Fridays and Saturdays, which were restaurant nights according to her own bylaws. She loved a good sale and would sometimes get carried away with her quest for Dillard’s bargains; as a result, she would often hide purchases and slowly blend them into the house inventory. She loved to teach. She taught her granddaughter her first curse word. She taught her daughter how to drive a stick shift, and that a woman should never go out without some lipstick. She taught her son that it’s okay for boys to cry, but don’t overdo it.

She was a longtime resident of Arkansas, but never forgot, or let anyone else forget, her Minnesota roots. The only things she loved more than traveling were her family, friends and a good laugh. She laughed a lot and we loved to laugh with her. Maybe, above all else, it’s the laughter we will remember and keep alive in us.

Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles Schuh Tenney, she is survived by her children, Charles “Chuck” Tenney and wife, Bridget; daughter, Michele Crouch and husband, Rob; brother, Donald Halvorsen and wife, Rose; and three grandchildren, Jozie, Lainie and Maggie Crouch.

Visitation will be Friday evening, July 31, beginning at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 6:00 at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Francis I. Malone on Saturday, August 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4000 N. Rodney Parham, Little Rock, 72212.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Dr., Little Rock, AR 72205.
