ROSCOE - William "Bill" J. Altenberg, 55, of 4427 Adele Street, Roscoe, Ill., died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, in Beloit Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 16, 1944, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Harold and Ramona Owens Altenberg. He graduated from Hononegah High School, Rockton, Ill., Class of 1962. Bill married Shirley Kincaid on Jan. 18, 1964, in Rockton, Ill.
Bill was employed by Warner Electric for 35 years. He was a member of Stateline Community Church of the Nazarene in Rockton, Ill., where he was a Board member, a Sunday School teacher, and organized the Drama Ministry. He also helped organize and served as president of the Stateline Softball League. Bill loved skiing, baseball, golf, woodworking and made clocks.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; his children, Jim (Kimberly) Altenberg of Loves Park, Ill., and Barb (Dale) Hegbom of Rockford, Ill.; his mother, Ramona Altenberg-Peterson of Rockton, Ill.; brother, Robert "Bob" Altenberg of Beloit; sister-in-law, Margaret Altenberg of Madison; one aunt; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Harold; infant son, Brian, and two brothers, John Altenberg and Tom Altenberg.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 1999, in Stateline Community Church of the Nazarene, Rockton, Ill., with the Rev. David Glick officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thurday in the Daley, Murphy, Wisch and Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, Wis.
