Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Steiger Hartz 90, Cavalier were held at 2 pm. Wednesday, April 9, at the Evangelical United Brethren church In Cavalier, with Rev. H. Stiles officiating, assisted by Rev. A. Herzberg.

Mrs. Hartz was born at Huffnunsthal, Russia, of German parentage Nov. 11, 1861, and died at her home Sunday, April 6, after a lingering illness.

She was married to Alfred Hartz June 15, 1884 and the couple migrated to Canada
In 1889 coming to Pembina county in 1893. Both spent the rest of their lives in the Cavalier community. Mr. Hartz died June 22, 1936. Mrs. Hartz was affiliated with the Assembly of God church. Having been converted to Christian faith when she was 23 years old.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol, Mrs. Geo. Schroeder and Mrs. John Elgert, Cavalier; five sons, John, Cavalier; Ernest, Bakersfield, Calf.; Jacob, Fargo; Alfred, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Edward of Roseburg, Ore. 48 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A daughter, Mrs. Restemayer, Cavalier, preceded her mother in death.

Pallbearers were six grandsons of Mrs Hartz, Ted Schroeder, Bob Hartz Emery Hartz, Lloyd Hartz, Walter Elgert and Clarence Restemayer. Burial was made in the Cavalier Cemetery
