Joseph Katkn was killed during the explosion and fire of Winter Quarters #4, a coal mine. He was a miner working deep underground, over a mile inside the mountain. There was no escape for the men trapped below. 200 men were killed by the explosion outright or by carbon monoxide poisoning.

This from JV Miller on 10.20.12
Their suggestion:
-------------------------
I believe the name is incorrectly recorded. My great grandfather's brother, Josef (as spelled in Finnish) was killed in a mine explosion in Scofield UT on 5-1-1900 and I believe this grave is his. Janet Miller

Their suggestion:
-------------------------
I neglected to mention that the last name is misspelled. It should be Kotka not Kotkn. Janet Miller
