Martha was born in Newbridge Glen Morganshire South Wales, May 5, 1854. She came to the United States with her parents in 1857. For 2 years they resided in Baltimore, MD. The family then moved to Hart, MO where they resided until moving to Topeka.
Martha was survived by three children, Mrs. Addie West, Argentine, KS; Mrs. J.R. Switzer and Mrs. Mildred Lyke of Topeka; a brother, Jenkins Edwards, Hart, MO; a half brother, Cass Edwards, Bucklin, MO.
Martha was a member of the Royal Neighbors and the Security Benefit Association.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Phillips.
Funeral services were held from the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Burial was held at the Topeka Cemetery.
