VERMILION -- Leonard L. Matuzek Sr., 68, of Vermilion, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, in EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, after a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 14, 1938, in Lorain and lived in Vermilion for 30 years.

Matuzek, a military career man, was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of staff sergeant. He had also been employed at Ford's Lorain Assembly Plant.

He enjoyed his family and watching television.

Survivors include his daughters Cheriyl Richmond of Republic, Rebecca Smith of Lorain, and MaDonna ''Donna'' Matuzek of Vermilion; son, Leonard L. Matuzek Jr., formerly of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Lillian Campo of Lorain; brothers William ''Bud'' Matuzek of San Jose, Calif., Eugene Matuzek of Glendale, Ariz., and Richard ''Dick'' Matuzek of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie, in 2004; his parents, Andrew B. and Madonna (nee Peepers) Matuzek; brothers Paul E. Matuzek, Benjamin Matuzek and Albert Lee Matuzek; sisters Lucille Shelley and Shirley Plato; and an infant grandson.

Friends may call Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a service at 7 p.m. by the Vermilion Veterans Council, at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion. The funeral will take place there Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Matthew Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
