Before settling down John traveled. As he said, I hopped on freight cars and saw the country. On one of these trips John went to Los Angeles to visit his sisters. The girls, Bernice & Helen, had been adopted by his Aunt Maud & Uncle Sam Brenn. When Maud & Sam saw him the first thing they did was to have John take a bath and go to Sam's barbershop and get a good haircut.
A few years later John met Mildred Wayrynen. Millie was a wonderful lady that everyone loved. They were married on 6 Jan 1934 in Michigan. The couple had 3 children, Edward, James & Barbara (Mosher) and many grand & great grandchildren.
After working 18 years for the Detroit & Cleveland Navigation line (D & C) shipping cars and 8 years at Avon Tube John & his brother Jim started Kennedy's Greenhouse. It was located on Rochester road south of Rochester. For over 10 years the boys enjoyed growing and selling plants to the public. In 1962 they sold the nursery business and retired.
Every year for decades John would look forward to and enjoy his fishing trips in Canada. There was always another big one that got away.
On the large lot of his home in Rochester John enjoyed grafting fruit tree branches in his orchard and puttering in his "personal" greenhouse. In retirement daily John continued to tend and love his plants.
John was loved by all his family especially his children & grandchildren.
