On Saturday, August 15, 2015, at 11:18 a.m., 80 year old Velma Marie Harlan, Marion, moved to her heavenly home. Her soul now resides with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Velma was born in Rochester, IN to the late Samuel and Eunice (Parman) Smith. She married Edward Dean Harlan; they enjoyed 49 years of marriage until his passing in March of 2002. During their time together, with love, patience, discipline and humility they raised four children.
Velma was a mother at heart, though her work did not stop there. She found time to be a pastor’s wife, to work 11 years at Crofton Foam Factory and 17 ½ years at Unite Technologies, before she retired. She spent her retirement years associated with Love on a Leash, where she and her toy poodle, Hope, visited nursing homes bringing joy into the lives of many residents.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicky (George) Kinder; sons, Mark (Debbie) Harlan, Randy (Annie) Harlan, and Kevin (Lori) Harlan; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Judy Spencer and Shirley (George) Chunn, and brother, Jerry (Willa) Smith.
In addition to her parents and husband, Velma was preceded in death by her sister, Frieda Hamblen and her brothers, Bill Parman, Everett Smith and Dean Smith.
Services for Velma will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. Marion, IN 46952 with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow in Marion National Cemetery.
Friends and family may call from 10:30-12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, prior to the service.
