Actress. She was an American film and television actress as well as a professional dancer. Craig will best be remembered for her role as "Batgirl" in 26 episodes of the 1960s television series, "Batman." She began her theatrical career as the youngest member of The Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, touring for three years when she was discovered by John Ford's son, Patrick. At that point, she was cast as the lead in the 1959 movie, "The Young Land," and, later that same year would also appear in "Gidget" and "The Gene Krupa Story." This was followed with roles in films such as "High Time" in 1960, "By Love Possessed" in 1961, with Elvis in "It Happened at the World's Fair" in 1963 and "Kissin' Cousins" in 1964, "One Spy Too Many" in 1966, and "In Like Flint" in 1967. Her highest profile role would come during the 1967 to 1968 season of "Batman" when she was cast as librarian Barbara Gordon, whose alter-ego was the pointed-ear crime fighter "Batgirl." She appeared in other television series, including six episodes of "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis," four episodes of "77 Sunset Strip," four episodes of "Love American Style," as a green-skinned character in "Star Trek," and a host of one-time guest roles. At the end of her television career, she had cartoon voiceover work for Nickelodeon in the role of grandmother in 30 episodes of "Olivia," with her last episode airing in 2011. After she retired from acting, she worked as a real estate agent and went into the prepaid phone card business at its inception. In 2000, she wrote a book of memoirs, "From Ballet to the Batcave and Beyond." Craig died in hospice care from complications from breast cancer that had metastasized to her liver. She married twice, divorced once, and had no children.
