"Mott, for many years a resident of this place, died at the Suffolk County Almshouse at Yaphank. "Uncle Mott" as he was generally called, was born at Hempstead. He was a servant in the home of Capt. Henry Townsend until the Captain's death. For many years Mott and his wife lived in a small house on the east side of Port Jefferson Bay, until his wife became too feeble to work, and was taken to the county house, where she died a few days ago. "Uncle Mott" will be buried beside her in the county graveyard."
