Mrs. John N. Bentz, 67. a Marcus resident since 1947, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 19th, at her home at Marcus. Lillian Bentz was born February 18, 1902 at Holland, Minnesota. She was married to John Bentz. February 16, 1920 at Elkton, South Dakota where they lived until moving to Remsen in 1925. In the 1940s they moved to Newell, operating a cafe there, and in 1947 opened the Idle Hour Cafe at Marcus. This business they ran until two years ago - 1967, at which time they sold the building to Harold Ladenthin to expand the drug store.

Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Richard Bird, Calumet; two sons: Floyd of Marcus and Staff Sgt. Leon Bentz of Universal City, Texas. A son, Lester, died in a drowning accident several years ago and two daughters died in infancy. Other survivors are 19 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Leo Grubich, St. Paul, Minnesota; four brothers: John and William Schuchard of Remsen, Clarence of Lake George, Minnesota and Ernest of Pipestone, Minnesota.

Funeral services were Tuesday morning in Holy Name Church, Marcus, with the Rev. Robert O'Reilly officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen.
