Clayton E. Amos, 81, Elm Street, Parkersburg, a teacher in Wood County Schools for 36 years, died Saturday morning at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.
He was born in Rockport, a son of the late Samuel Clayton and Addie Archer Amos.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Parkersburg, where he was a member of the Twentieth Century Class and a deacon. He was a member of Parkersburg Masonic Lodge 169, Jerusalem Chapter No. 3 R.A.M., Calvary Commandery No. 3, K.T. Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 14, and Order of Amaranth Royal Court No. 5.
He was a 30-year member of the South Parkersburg Lions Club and was a member of the Wood County West Virginia and National Teachers Association. He served in the Mediterranean with the U.S. Army in World War II.
He was a bachelor's from West Liberty College and a master's in elementary education from West Virginia University. He taught in Wood County for 36 years, 19 of those at Jefferson School.
Survivors include his wife, Ida L. Caltrider Amos; two brothers, Edwin R. Amos of Parkersburg and Frank T. Amos of Springfield, Va.; and two sisters, Eva Wright and Betty Patton of Parkersburg.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Services 10 a.m. Tuesday, First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. William G. Phipps presiding. Burial Evergreen Cemetery North, Parkersburg.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and in the Harris Room at the church from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.
