Rosana May was the daughter of John Shaw May and Frances West. She married Wiley Arthur in Aberdeen, Brown Co., Ohio on 20 April 1876. Historians say the reason for a marriage in Aberdeen instead of Lewis County was due to the fact it was cheaper and more convenient during that time. Rosana and Wiley had six known children: Gertrude, Elza Sherman, Eugene Garfield, Earnest Lee, Perry Shaw and Birdie. Sometime after Birdie's birth in August of 1890 and before Wiley's second marriage to Dorcas Fuller in 1899, Rosana died and it is unknown at this time when her death occurred due to the lack of death records in the county. The only record available thus far is the school census for 1897 which is a possible indicator that she died prior to 1897 since she was not listed on that record with her husband. Wiley and his second wife were buried in Woodland (Woodlawn) Cemetery but there are no markers near their graves that would suggest Rosana was buried there. It is more likely that she was buried with her parents in Mays Cemetery along Oak Ridge Road, just off of Route #344, on the Glen Stamm farm. This farm was once owned by John & Frances May and it is where Wiley & Rosana lived in the first few years of their marriage.
