Ruth Taylor Martin, 94, of Boonville, Indiana passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at The Village at Hamilton Pointe in Newburgh, Indiana.

Ruth was born May 17, 1921 to Orville and Martha King Taylor on a farm south of Boonville along with a twin brother Ralph. They joined brothers Dorsey (Thelma /Rachel) Taylor and Wayne (Lucille) Taylor and a sister Marie (William) Taylor Ballard. They all proceeded her in death including her twin Ralph who passed away just before their first birthday.

Ruth grew up south of Boonville attending South Friendship Church and Vogel School in her early years. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at 11 years during a revival and was baptized in the Ohio River. Her family started attending Main Street General Baptist Church during her teen years. Ruth graduated from Boonville High School in 1938 and soon after met a young man at a church youth gathering.

Ruth married George Henry Martin, son of Dr. Charles F Martin and Adeline Nordhorn Martin, on July 18, 1942. George was drafted into WWII within a month of their marriage so after a few months, Ruth joined him in Springfield MO where he served stateside in the U.S. Army at Riley Hospital until he was shipped offshore to the Philippines. Ruth worked at the court house during the war and then became a homemaker following George's return to Boonville after his discharge in early 1946. The couple settled into marriage and soon welcomed their twins Darrel and Darlene in 1947 and daughter Deena in 1958. They were married 70 years at the time of George's death in 2012.
George and Ruth were members of Main Street Baptist where George was a Deacon for 40 years and Ruth taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Young Homemakers Missionary Society. Ruth took pride in her homemaking and enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, reading, cooking, refinishing furniture, walking, babysitting her grandchildren and visiting with friends. She also found time to volunteer as a School Crossing Guide, serve as a Pink Lady at Warrick Hospital and at the Bread of Life Ministry with George.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband George, as well as her parents, siblings and 2 nephews. Survivors include her son Darrel (Debbie) Martin, daughter Darlene (Reginald) Heck; daughter Deena (Daniel) Russell; 12 Grandchildren: Jeffrey Heck; DeWayne (Jessica) Martin; Amy Heck; Drew (Courtney) Martin; Ryan (Kristina) Heck; D.J. (Aaron Lustbader) Martin; Rachel Heck; and Rebecca Heck; 3 Great-grandchildren: Michael Martin; Carter Martin; Dylan Martin-Lustbader, and nieces and nephews

The family wishes to thank Dianne Chapman, Karen Postin, and Tammy Scales (caregivers) and the staffs at The Protestant Home and The Village at Hamilton Pointe for their care of Ruth during the last 3 years.

Services were held at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Koehler's Funeral Home in Boonville with Rev. Dave Schwambach officiating. Visitation was on Friday, September 11 from 5 to 8 PM and from 9:30 AM on Saturday until service time. Interment followed at Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville. The family requested that memorials be made to Main Street General Baptist Church.
