Funeral Services for Lola Diuguid Chesnut Alexander will be Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cedar Avenue Chapel of Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, McKenzie. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 15, 2015, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Mrs. Alexander was born in Bowling Green, KY on June 22, 1921 to Walter Franklin and Fannie Meador Chesnut. She attended Bowling Green High School; received a Bachelor of Arts from Bethel College in 1942, where she later became active with Bethel College Alumni and served on its Board of Trustees for 21 years. She also received a Bachelor of Science in Library Science from George Peabody College in 1945. She was a long time member of McKenzie First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for 50 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served on the Administrative Board during her active years there. She was also a member of the Mentor Club for 50 years, the Morning Glory Garden Club, a volunteer at United Neighbors and a life member of the McKenzie Senior Citizens Organization. When her children were young, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader as well as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was active in the PTA, serving as the local President and other positions at the district level. In 1983 she was instrumental in starting the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary. Later she served as its President and volunteered at the Hospital for over 20 years. One of her longest term volunteer activities was with the American Red Cross. She started as a volunteer in high school in 1937. For over 40 years she was dedicated to the successful Blood Mobile program in Carroll County and across the state of Tennessee.
She is survived by two daughters Anne (Don) Mitchell and Jean (Kenny) Melton, one son Jim Alexander, Jr, one sister Beba Mullins, five grandchildren Jennifer (Brad) Ashby, Chris (Hollie) Alexander, Kathryn Alexander, Alex Carter and Grace Alexander and one great-grandson Hunter Ashby. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim Alexander, six brothers Walter Chesnut, Franklin Chesnut, Paul Chesnut, David Chesnut, James Chesnut and Marion Chesnut
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to McKenzie First United Methodist Church, Bethel University – Jim Alexander Scholarship Fund or the American Red Cross.
