Orville Arlis “Muggs” Sumpter, age 75, of Nancy, departed this life on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, in Somerset.
Arlis “Muggs” was born on September 6, 1940, in the Naomi Community, to the late Orville and Ella Dawes Sumpter. He married Zella Marie Burton, in Somerset, on August 31, 1957. They have one daughter from their union. “Muggs” was a carpenter and a farmer for most of his life. He helped build houses, fire department, churches and many other buildings in the Southern part of Kentucky. “Muggs” was a loving person to all who knew him and greeted everyone with a smile. He loved fishing with his friends in the Lake Cumberland “Fishing in the Dark” Tournament for over twenty years. He loved his animals, family and friends most of all. “Muggs” was a lifelong member of Delmar Church of the Nazarene, along with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Zella; his daughter, Dee Anna Sumpter, who had been his caretaker for years; sisters-in-law, Darlene Sumpter and Marcella Sumpter, both of Nancy; and a host of very special nieces and nephews, who were dear to his heart.
Preceding “Muggs” in death are his parents; his brothers, Harold “Shorty” Sumpter, Howard Sumpter and Lindsey Sumpter; his sister, Jenitha Sumpter Muse; and his sister-in-law, Isanelle Sumpter.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, after 5:00pm, in the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at 11:00am, in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. Scott Cooksey officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bryan Dye, J.B. Muse, Danny Sumpter, Doug Burton, H.C. Sumpter and Josh Hatfield.
