George H. Reitmeyer, age 92, of Southbrook Manor, 3400 Yorkshire Lane, Manitowoc, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 29, 2012.

George was born in Cato, on August 7, 1919, son of the late Joseph and Emma (Yohanek) Reitmeyer. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. He entered the U.S. Army in June 1941, attended the Sperry Searchlight School in Brooklyn, NY and served until his honorable discharge in December, 1945, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant in the Coast Artillery during World War II. In July of 1948, George married Betty Meulemans at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Maple Grove. Together, they owned and operated Reitmeyer's Bar for 46 years. During that time, George practiced his artistic talents in lettering signs and trucks. He also painted landscapes and wildlife scenes. He worked at Ariens Company for 12 years. In addition, George was past president and member of the Holy Name Society at St. Michael's Church, Whitelaw, and served as constable for the town of Cato and Clerk for Cato Heights School. He was also a former member of the Eagles Club, former director of the Seagulls Club and former member of the Tavern League. George enjoyed sharing their cabin near Crivitz with family and friends where they hunted deer and fished for brook trout. In 1992, George and Betty moved to Whitelaw where they lived for 18 years before moving to Manitowoc in 2010. Shortly after leaving Cato, George wrote a book titled "Cato" which was a history of the town and its people as he remembered them.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years: Betty; two daughters and sons-in-law: Sandra (Ralph) Kozlowski, Elburn, IL; Jeanne (Jim) Grube, Sheboygan; one son: Joseph Reitmeyer, Elmhurst, IL; three grandchildren: Jason (Stacey) Beaupre, Geneva, IL; Michael (Kelly) Kozlowski, Bowling Green, OH; Mark Kozlowski, Aurora, IL; five great granddaughters: Annemarie; Jessica; Maya, Emilie and Anna; one brother: Carl (Ruth) Reitmeyer, Manitowoc; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Daisy Brennan, Manitowoc; Leonetta (Mitchell) Silver; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Jack and Pat Meulemans, Manitowoc; Terry and Donna Meulemans, Reedsville along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother: Joseph (Mayme) Reitmeyer; sisters: Eleanor (Clarence) Sittman; Alma (Clarence) Carbon; Olive (John) Grall; Marion (Raymond) Jagemann and brother-in-law: Kenneth Brennan. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Emil and Marie Meulemans; in-laws: Helen and Glen Johnson; Bob and Barbara Meulemans; and Jim Meulemans.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Whitelaw. Rev. David Zimmerman will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m.

The Reinbold and Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville is assisting the Reitmeyer family.

George's quick humor and many jokes will be sadly missed by his family members and friends.
