Mary C. (Dondlinger) Mella, age 99, a Manitowoc resident, died on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.

Mary was born on August 6, 1916 in Iona, MN, daughter of the late Nickolas and Anna (Schoo) Dondlinger. She attended grade school in Valders and graduated from high school in Milwaukee. On October 25, 1941 she married Florian A. Mella at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Northeim. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1996.

Mary and Florian owned and operated various farms in the Newton area for many years until their retirement. Her passion in retirement was painting. Mary created over 800 paintings of birds, flowers and landscapes in her career.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law: Mary Lou and James Pfeifer, Manitowoc, Suzanne and Joseph Zboralski, Manitowoc, Ellen and Genial Mathu, Luxemburg; four sons and three daughters-in-law: Florian F. and Lynda Mella, Sobieski, Michael and Dana Mella, Norfork, VA, James Mella, Milwaukee, Timothy and Carolyn Mella, Green Bay; 15 grandchildren: Jackie Pfeifer-Peterman and Mark Peterman, Steve and Marcy Pfeifer, Marcie Pfeifer-Soderbloom and Aric Soderbloom, Laura and Shane Sawall, Katie Zboralski and Bryan Kuhn, Joseph Mathu, Michael Mathu, Joe and Deb Mella, Dan and Jess Mella, Kelly Mella, Adam Mella, Meghan Mella and Greg Feiden, Andrew Mella, Matt Mella and Jenny Mella; 13 great grandchildren: Lexie, Justin, Annie, Thomas, Luke, Ethan, Emmett, Lena, Mack, Gabi, Kellan, Edi and Desmond; and an expectant 14th great grandchild in January; one sister: Jean Krentz, Norwalk, OH; one brother: Leo Dondlinger, Mosinee, WI; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Dondlinger, Manitowoc, Rosella Dondlinger, Minneapolis, MN; special friends: Patti and Joel Trick, Maribel, special cousins: Francois and Michele Thill, Luxembourg, Europe. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Therese (Eugene) Taylor and Katherine (Al) Knutson and her second husband: Herman Riesterer; four brothers: Frank Dondlinger, Bill (Carole) Dondlinger, Norb (Theown) Dondlinger, John Dondlinger; and a brother-in-law: Frank V. Mella.

Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Memorial Service will be the Rev. David Beaudry with burial of her cremated remains at St. Casimir Cemetery, Northeim, following the service.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 until 10:45 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the Macular Degeneration Foundation (P.O. Box 531313 Henderson, NV 89053) or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (P.O. Box 515 Northampton MA 01061-0515).
