SS Ostpreussen, built by F. Schichau, Danzig in 1901 and operated at the time
of her loss by The Admiralty (Witherington & Everett), London, was a
British steamer of 1779 tons.
On November 25th, 1917, Ostpreussen, on a voyage from Sunderland to
London with a cargo of coal, was sunk by a mine from the German submarine
UC-11 (Karl Dobberstein), 1.5 miles east of the Shipwash lightvessel.
