My great-great-grandmother, Keziah Knustep Wallace was the wife of my great-great-grandfather, James E. Wallace. In the 1850 U. S. Federal Census, she is living with her daughter Mary Matilda Wallace Stokes and her family in The South Division, Surry County, N.C. In the 1850 Census it does not list Married, Single or Widowed, but her husband James E. Wallace does not seem to be in the "picture".

1860
In the 1860 U. S. Federal Census, she is a widow and living with her son William and his family in North of Hunting Creek, Surry County, N.C.

1870
In the 1870 U. S. Federal Census, she is still with her son William and his family in Turnersburg, Iredell County, N.C.

We could not find her after the 1870 Census with neither son nor daughter. We assume she died between 1870 to 1879. The only time after this, is when G-G-Grandparents are listed is in the Certificate of Marriage for their son William's marriage to his 2nd wife Sarah Tucker. It states that both had died.

"Just a little thought I had". Grandmother Keziah may have changed her last name when she made a "New Step" in a new land.

My grandmother Wallace told my mother that my great and great-great grandparents, Wallace's originally came from England. My mother recorded this in mine and my brothers Baby Books. In my research I did not definitely find this. However, I did find several records of them being from North Carolina.
