(Majore) Richard Shepard, son of John Shepard, born probably at Barrington, NH, about 1748, died at Holderness, N.H. 6 Mar 1825, aged 77 (gravestone); married first, it is said, a cousin of Esther Cox (wife of Joseph Shepard);

married second, at Holderness, 30 Dec. 1792, Azubah Adams, daughter of (Deac.) Thomas Adams of Charlestown, N.H.;

married third, at Tamworth, N.H., 12 Oct. 1797, Abigail (Folsom) Gilman, born 30 Aug. 1760, daughter of Nathan and Elizabeth ( ) Folsom, widow of (Capt.) Israel Gilman;

married fourth, a Mrs. Marston.

He was listed in the 1790 Census at New Holderness with a household of two males over 16 and five females. On 10 Feb. 1797, Richard Shepard of Holderness, Gent., with a large number of others (several named Farnsworth) conveyed their right in the estate of Azubah Shepard, late wife of said Richard. [Cheshire County, N.H., Land.]

Richard Shepard of New Holderness, N.H., bought land in Plymouth, Vt., 1796 [Plymouth Land.] Samuel S. Shepard of Holderness petitioned that Richard Shepard of Holderness died intestate leaving a widow and one heir who is the wife of John Shepard "whose son your petitioner is," the widow and John Shepard declining administration, and he was appointed administrator; and on 22 Aug 1825 Samuel Smith Shepard reported that the estate was insolvent, and John Shepard, Jr., and Joseph Shepard were appointed commissioners.
