Laurain was born July 17, 1930 in the Town of Newton daughter of the late Ruben and Olga (Waack) Groelle. On November 12, 1960, she married Harold W. Borgwardt at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2013. In the past Laurain worked for the Red Owl store in Manitowoc, Pine River Pre Pak, the American Club in Kohler and the Piggly Wiggly store in Sheboygan Falls. She was a member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church and Bethany Ev. Lutheran Ladies Aid, Hammond Organ Club, Belgian Draft Horse Association and the Holstein Cattle Association. Laurain enjoyed gardening (flower and vegetable), sewing, cooking and snowmobiling.
Survivors include one daughter: Nancy Anderson, Newton; six grandchildren: Amy (Alex) Berg; Mark Anderson; Jacob Anderson; Jodi (Joshua) Renner; Cory Borgwardt; Ashley Borgwardt; five great grandchildren: Olivia; Jason; Zachary; Bridgit; and Mitchell Berg; one sister-in-law: Doris Borgwardt, St. Nazianz, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Rueben and Olga Groelle; husband: Harold Borgwardt; one son: Chris Borgwardt; one sister and brother-in-law: Evelyn (William) Sieracki.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel, 1500 Highway 310, Manitowoc. Rev. Stephen Melso will officiate with entombment to follow in the mausoleum.
