Jacob Adelstein (1917 - 2015)

ALLEGANY - Jacob Adelstein, of 104 Clarence St., passed away Saturday (Sept. 19, 2015) at Absolut Care of Allegany.
Born Sept. 27, 1917, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Joseph and Sophie Dichter Adelstein. He was married to Loretta Gusik Adelstein, who survives.
Mr. Adelstein was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He proudly worked for many years with his brothers as an owner and operator of Finest Food Distributing Co. Inc. in Queens. He passed the business on to his son who now runs the company along with his cousin. Through his hard work. it grew from a small business to one that now employs a third generation of his family.
As proud as he was of his son, he was equally proud of his daughter who is in practice as a lawyer in Olean. She had been assisting her parents in their transition from New York City to Allegany when he fractured a hip and, after surgery, decided that his 97 years on Earth was enough. Although Brooklyn was his home and was in his heart, he was looking forward to a new beginning in Allegany. He will be remembered as a generous, wonderful father and a loving husband.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Fern (William Herrmann) Adelstein of Olean; a son, Larry (Isabel Diaz) Adelstein of North Woodmere; three grandchildren, Ian Adelstein-Herrmann, Jordan Adelstein and Mayra Diaz; a great-granddaughter, Sierra; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
Burial will be in the B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Olean.
