US Congressman. Elected to represent Massachusetts' 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1838 to 1843. He also served as as a Member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives in 1813, Member of the Massachusetts State Senate in 1817, Delegate to the Massachusetts State Constitutional Convention in 1820, and as the Mayor of Salem, Massachusetts, in 1836.
