West Walker was the only son of Elijah Walker and Rebecca Carroll. He moved to Franklin County, Ga. with his parents about 1790. West joined the Georgia Militia as a 'Private' in Feb 23, 1796 and fought in the Frontier War under Lieutenant John Stonecypher until December 27, 1796. He received compensation at a rate of 3 1/4 cents per day. He met his wife, Juda Peak upon his return and they were married abt. 1800. They remained in Franklin County, Ga. living near the foot of Currahee Mtn. until just after his father's death in 1818. Early in 1819 West, his mother Rebecca, wife Juda and their nine children moved to Hall County near the base of Walker Mountain, (now known as Waulka Mountain). The family made the decision to move to the Yahoola Valley just north of Dahlonega around 1832, possibly prompted by the Gold Lottery. Mother Rebecca lived next door to the family in 1840, but soon left and moved to Gilmer Co. next door to her grandson, William Walker. West and Juda were Baptists and belonged to the newly formed Yahoola Baptist Church. We believe he is buried in the church cemetery, in the Walker Family section near the back (center)next to his wife Juda. Many old river rock stones were removed by the 'lawn-mower man' in the 1950's so the exact location has been lost.
