James Rosborough was the third child of four, born to Andrew Rosborough and Jane Babington and the only son. He enlisted in the British Army having served in the South Africa rising to the rank of Major. He was posted to Dublin Ireland and was the commanding Officer of Porobello Barracks in Dublin at the outbreak of the 1916 Easter uprising and was involved in a very high profile court case surrounding the murder of a pacifist by the name of Francis Sheehy Skeffington. The case is referred to on many international web sites and is also referred to in the Sinn Fein handbook. He was married to Sarah A McKinstry 21st January 1914 at st Paul, Kensington London. They had two children Doreen Maureen Rosemary Rosborough born 14th November 1914 and Colin Babington Clarke Rosborough who went on to serve as a captain in the British Army
