Myrtle Fay was born to Harvey Shepherd Bruce and Mary E. Witt Bruce on May 8th, 1892 in Iowa. Her Mama passed away in 1895 (at 33 years old), leaving three little girls to be raised by their Daddy. Myrtle was the middle child, and three years old at the time. The family moved to California in about 1905. In 1915 she married Corey Verkuyl, and they had a daughter Harriett Mae( my Grandmother). The marriage didn't work out, and they were divorced. She later married Fred Ellis and had two sons; Richard and David Ellis.
She passed away when I was 16 years old. I count myself as very fortunate to have been able to meet my Great Grandmother, and to have her so many years. I did not get to know her as well as I would have liked, as we lived 2,000 miles apart. I do have some memory of her though; she was a very loving Grandma and Great Grandma! My mother has many memories of her,and misses her very much! They wrote each other, and kept in close contact until she passed away in 1971.
