Carlos Alvarez Sr., age 80, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at his residence.
Carlos was born on November 4, 1934 in Zacatecas, Mexico to the late Clemente Ramirez and Felicitas Alvarez. On August 16, 1955, Carlos married Guadalupe Gaona in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. To make a better life for him and his family, Carlos worked at various jobs as a migrant worker in 38 different states. He was employed at Tecumseh as a machinist until his retirement in 1996. Carlos enjoyed playing pool with his friends and family and always had time to put on a show with his trick shots. Carlos was very active at his church, St. Willebrord in Green Bay, for many years. At St. Willebrord, Carlos and Lupe led retreats, distributed communion and gave pre-marriage classes. Most recently, Carlos enjoyed attending services at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. He was seldom seen NOT wearing his Packer hat. Also, Carlos never came across a meal he did not like. He was a funny character and had plenty of "bi-lingual one liners". Above all, Carlos enjoyed spending his time with family and endless friends.
Survivors include Carlos' wife: Guadalupe, Manitowoc; seven children: Maria (Rev. Robert) Dick, Whitefish Bay; Carlos (Carol) Alvarez Jr., Johnston, IA; Javier (R.J.) Alvarez, De Soto; Cesar Alvarez, Manitowoc; Sergio Alvarez, Manitowoc; Tony (Brenda) Alvarez, Brown Deer; and Veronica (Mark) Bonin, Sheboygan; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; also other relatives and friends. Carlos was preceded in death by three sisters, a brother, and granddaughter: Carmen.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4 p.m. Fr. Ken DeGroot will officiate with burial to take place at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. Following the funeral service, a dinner will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in Carlos' name.
