Nihla Hanks Thomson, aged 96, passed away peacefully in her Pacific Beach home on September 14, 2015. She was born on January 10, 1919 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the daughter of Henry and Nellie Hanks. In 1942, she married the love of her life, Quentin R. Thomson, also of Lake Charles, Louisiana. They were married for 63 years until his passing in October of 2005.
After World War II, Nihla and Quentin Thomson moved to Tucson, Arizona, where Nihla Thomson raised their eight children and was a devoted wife and mother. Her husband, Quentin, taught in the Engineering Department at the University of Arizona for 30 years. She and her family spent most summers away from the desert in San Diego, California at Mission Beach. Nihla loved music, played the piano on a daily basis and made sure her children also learned to play the piano.
Nihla Thomson is survived by her eight children, including: Jane (Lee) Baly, Marilyn Thomson, Jim (Jackie) Thomson, Susan (Darryl) Tschirn, Mark Thomson, Ann Thomson, Quentin (Christine) Thomson, Jr., and Eric (Debi) Thomson. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.
