Emma Hanley was born about 1867 in Dublin, Ireland. Her parents were John Hanly and Emma Hall. It appears she was married two times. Her first husband was William Stonehouse. They had at least one child named John Henry Stonehouse who was born in October 1885 in West Derby, Lancashire, England. His baptism took place on March 7, 1886 at St. Mary in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England. Emma's second husband was Thomas Leslie MacMitchell (son of Thomas MacMitchell and Marguerite McNeill of Belfast, Ireland). They were married on November 4, 1891 in Manhattan, New York City, New York. It is not known if Emma and Thomas had children. She died on August 2, 1914 in Manhattan, and her burial took place at "Linden Hill M. E. Cemetery".

1) Emma's second husband, Thomas Leslie MacMitchell, briefly lived in Scotland from 1915 to 1918. While he was there he met his second wife, Mary Thom (daughter of William Thom and Margaret Torbet of Ochiltree). They were married on June 11. 1917 in Glasgow. In 1918, Thomas moved back to New York City with Mary where they had one child named Thomas Leslie MacMitchell (or Les MacMitchell). Les was a track star.

2) Records for Thomas have his surname as McMitchell or MacMitchell.
