His baptism took place on March 7, 1886 at St. Mary in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England. Emma's second husband was Thomas Leslie MacMitchell (son of Thomas MacMitchell and Marguerite McNeill of Belfast, Ireland). They were married on November 4, 1891 in Manhattan, New York City, New York. It is not known if Emma and Thomas had children. She died on August 2, 1914 in Manhattan, and her burial took place at "Linden Hill M. E. Cemetery".

While he was there he met his second wife, Mary Thom (daughter of William Thom and Margaret Torbet of Ochiltree). They were married on June 11. 1917 in Glasgow. In 1918, Thomas moved back to New York City with Mary where they had one child named Thomas Leslie MacMitchell (or Les MacMitchell). Les was a track star.
