Kilian Simon Dies; Rites at Manitowoc

Peter J. Simon of Sturgeon Bay was advised last Thursday of the death of his only brother, Kilian Simon, at St. Mary's Home for the Aged at Manitowoc.

Deceased was born June 12, 1864, and was a youth of 17 when he came to Dour county with five other members of the Simon family and located in Sturgeon Bay. He never married and during upwards of 50 years he lived here. He was employed at odd jobs in the Shipyards, orchards and elsewhere.

About three years ago he went to Manitowoc to spend his declining years at the home for the aged, and at his request was buried in the cemetery at the home.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, and were attended by Peter J. Simon, the only surviving member of a family of 14 children, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fehring and two sons of Sawyer, Mrs. Fehring a niece, being a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam Simon of Sturgeon Bay.

Kilian Simon Dies At St. Mary's Home For Aged Last Week

Kilian Simon. 73, died from a stroke at St. Mary's Home for the Aged at Manitowoc Thursday last week where he had been living for the past three years. Mr. Simon had been ailing for the past year and was taken seriously ill two weeks ago. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's home chapel, and burial was made in the cemetery there according to Mr. Simon's expressed wishes.

Deceased, was born at West Bend, Wis., June 12, 1864, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Simon. In the fall of 1881, six of the Simon family came to Door county, where John, a brother had already secured a farm in Nasewaupee, and bought nearby land. Kilian, however, soon settled in this city where he resided for about 50 years.

Mr. Simon was a member of the Catholic Knights and of the Holy Name society. He never married.

Peter J. Simon of this city is the only survivor of fourteen children. He and his niece, Mrs. Joseph Fehring and her husband and two sons from Sawyer, went to Manitowoc to attend the funeral.

Killian Simon (sic), alleged insane. Hearing had on the 7th day of September, 1937 , and said Killian Simon was adjudged insane and committed to the Manitowoc County Insane Asylum at Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
