A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Barbara Ann Bihm, DNS, RN at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, LA, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The Reverend Ted Broussard will conduct the services.

Barbara Ann Bihm, age 64, was a native of Lawtell and recently moved to Leonville after retirement to be near family. She died on October 10, 2015 at her home surrounded by those who loved her.

Dr. Bihm had been a nursing educator for approximately 35 years. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from USL, her Master's Degree in Nursing from Boston College, and her Doctorate of Nursing Science from LSU Medical Center in New Orleans. She began her teaching career at Boston University in Massachusetts and returned to Louisiana where she taught at USL, Touro Infirmary, and Loyola University. She retired as an Emeritus Professor of Nursing from Loyola University, where she received the Outstanding Professor in the College of Nursing Award several times. Her intelligence, her kindness, and concern for her students have impacted many throughout her long career. She will be remembered with esteem in the nursing profession.

She had a passion for flowers and loved working in her flower gardens.

She is survived by her brother, Bobbie Bihm of Opelousas and Johnnie Bihm and wife Pat of DeRidder; nephews, David Bihm and wife Kim of Arlington, TX, Darryl Bihm and wife Ginger of Fort Worth, TX, and Tracy Bihm and wife Ann of Sunset, LA; a niece, Stephanie Lanclos and husband Billy of Leonville, LA; great-nephews, Alex Bihm and Will Lanclos, and great-nieces, Haley Bihm, Payten Bihm, Carlie Bihm, and Jordan Lanclos.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Curries and Esther L. Bihm; a sister-in-law, Mary J. Bihm; and a great-nephew, Ryan Bihm.

The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Charlene Brown and Charlotte Antia.

The family has requested the visitation be held in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning Monday, October 12, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. The Reverend Austin Leger will lead a rosary on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
