Col. Nathaniel Meserve was from Portsmouth, NH, and in 1758 he was in command of the New Hampshire Regiment that went with the battalion that was ordered to join the second expedition to take the city of Louisburg, in Nova Scotia, Canada, from the French. "The small pox broke out among them, and all but 16 died. Col. Meserve and his eldest son fell victims to this loathsome disease."
