George Eugene McIntyre, Sr., 72, of Williamstown, W.Va., died Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at his home, after suffering a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born April 26, 1943, in Williamstown, to Earl (Teet) McIntyre, Sr. and Evelyn Eudora Lent McIntyre. He attended Williamstown schools.

He spent his life in the Williamstown/Marietta area, and had worked in Arizona and Alabama. He attended Lynn Street Church of Christ in Parkersburg, W.

McIntyre was a metal fabricator, iron worker and welder. Before retirement, he had worked at the following businesses, City of Williamstown, Marietta Concrete Silo Crew, Litten Fabrication, Armstrong Steel, Vadakin Inc., Rink's Department Store, Pawnee, Santa Fe Drilling, Remington Rand Co., Forma Scientific and Globe Metallurgical (Beverly, Ohio, and Selma, Alabama).

George was interested in world politics. He enjoyed talking to people, anytime and anywhere. He loved reading books on science, history and western novels. He enjoyed making knives and walking sticks, whittling wood, playing guitar, motorcycles, fishing, knitting and braiding. He had taken plane flight lessons and for several years was building an airplane. The only thing with that plan was that no one would volunteer to fly on it with him.

In 1959, he married Dorothy McCloud McIntyre, who passed away in 2007. They had been married for 47 years.

He is survived by four daughters, Trisha Whiteley (Mark) of Whipple, Kimberly Anderson and Rebecca Trefz of Williamstown and Jennifer Skinner (Sam) of Beverly; two sons, George McIntyre, Jr. of Marietta and Sean McIntyre of Williamstown; twenty-eight grandchildren, Kenny Whiteley, Malisa Barnes, Eric Whiteley, Amanda McIntyre, Alisha Riley, George "Bubby" McIntyre III, Jesse Anderson, Stephani Henderson, Sara Luke, Jon-David Anderson II, Jordan Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Jonah Antill, Bethany McIntyre Dailey, Brittani Trefz, Alex Trefz, Kaitlynne Trefz, Isaac Trefz, Michael McIntyre Beck, Peyton McIntyre Beck, Samantha Skinner, Tara Skinner, Lexi Skinner, Reagan Skinner, Skylar Skinner, Heather McIntyre, Drew McIntyre and James; and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

In August 2015, George married Erica Bearse, who survives him. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Robin Bearse Silva; a sister-in-law, Alison Bearse; and three nieces.

Preceded in death by sister-in-law, Erin Greathouse, who left behind a wonderful husband, two nieces and a nephew.

Patience, tolerance, care and concern for others is what George instilled in Erica, who tries to live by these every day of her life.

He is also survived by one brother, Earl (Butch) McIntyre, Jr., of Marietta; and two sisters, Donna Fisher (Richard) of California, and Rita Fisher (Billy) of Williamstown; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His other family was his AA friends. Thirty-three years ago he nearly died from alcohol poisoning. He went to rehab and never took another drink. Over these many years, he has sponsored many people through the life changing 12-step program of AA. These friends made his life special and meaningful. He truly loved them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Todd McIntyre; an infant granddaughter, Hayli McIntyre Beck; an infant great-granddaughter, Avaleigh Anderson; and four brothers, Howard McIntyre, David McIntyre, Jack McIntyre and William Arthur (Art) McIntyre.

In honor of his wishes, the body was cremated and there will be no funeral service. The family requests that no flowers be sent to the home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in George's name.

A memorial service will be held at the Belpre Church of Christ, 2932 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, on November 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. Visitation with the family will take place one hour before the service. A private burial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown.

Lambert-Tatman Funeral and Cremation Services of Vienna/Parkersburg is assisting the family with arrangements.
