Wilma Sanford, former Dodge Community resident, passed away at 12:09 Saturday afternoon, February 16, 2002 at her home in Commerce, Okla., after a long illness. She was 76-years-old.Mrs. Sanford was born November 3, 1925 in the Dodge Community, Grove, to William "Bill" and Alice Abbott Markle. On August 31, 1947 Wilma married Vernon T. Sanford at the First Baptist Church in Quapaw, Okla. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Sanford was employed at Parsons Ammunition Plant and at Eagle Picher in Quapaw for several years before retiring. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Quapaw and an active member of the Rebekahs Lodge. Mrs. Sanford was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.Survivors include: two sons, Raymond Sanford of the state of Arkansas and Robert Sanford of Cameron, Mo.; two daughters, Judy Mason of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Marsha Robertson, of Miami, Okla.; four sisters, Edna Brown and Ella Francis, Aliene Harris of Grove, and Ada Walls of California; Joanna Turner Kissar of Oklahoma City, Okla., Judy Junge Ramos of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and a host of loving friends.There will be visitation for family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday evening, February 18, at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home of Commerce.Services for Mrs. Sanford will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, February 19, at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home of Commerce. Reverend Phillip McGechie will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.Interment will be at the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Okla.Services are under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home of Welch, Okla.
