Businessman, horse racing enthusiast, politician, prominent community leader.

George Ho Lem was the first ethnic Chinese Canadian elected as alderman of a large city (in 1959), and as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta (in 1971).

He was also active in the Calgary Jaycees, served as President of the hospital board and was a director of the Calgary Stampede.

An enthusiastic native Calgarian, and a proud Albertan, George inherited his father's belief that Canada should be a place for people of all cultural backgrounds to live, work and play.

He is survived by wife Edie, two sons and two daughters, and nine grandchildren.
