Robert "Bob" Flannery, age 76, of Taylor, died Thursday morning at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Wanas Flannery. Wed on Nov. 6, 1971, the couple recently celebrated their 44th anniversary.

Born in Scranton on Jan. 28, 1939, son of the late Robert Sr. and Regina Rahner Flannery, Bob was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1956. A veteran of the Navy, he earned the Good Conduct Medal for his service. Before retirement, he worked for Northeastern Envelope in Old Forge.

A member of VFW Post 25, he was also an avid reader who loved crossword puzzles. Bob was the patriarch of his family, while possessing both the "gift of gab" and memorable joke-telling humor. The family historian, it was always a given that Bob would have the answer to family genealogy questions. Spending time with his family meant the world to him, especially celebrating a shared Super Bowl birthday party with his niece, Marilyn McGinnis, and attending his granddaughter's dance recitals each year.

Passing away peacefully, he will be dearly missed.

Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of St. Ann's Basilica Parish.

Surviving are his children, Robert Flannery; and Cathleen Wasalinko and husband, Alex, all of Scranton; two grandchildren, Alex Bridgette and Ethan Wasalinko; and nieces and nephews.

Sisters, Jean Verduce and Margaret (Peg) Martin, also preceded him in death.

His family would like to express its gratitude to the entire staff of Sacred Heart for their wonderful care, as well as Bob's neighbors for their amazing support throughout Bob's illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Basilica, 1239 St. Ann's St., Scranton. Interment with military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge.
