Edwin H. Stavens was born December 22, 1914 in Newburgh Township, Steele County, the son of the late Thorval Stavens and Emma Hove. He was baptized and confirmed his faith in the Little Forks Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army 1926-1946.
He married Barbara Olson February 14, 1947 at Hatton. The couple farmed and made their home in Beaver Creek Township, rural Hatton. He was a member of the Goose River Congregation and entered into rest on November 26, 1982 at the United Hospital, Grand Forks, N.D.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Troy of South Pasadena, Calif.; four brothers, Gilman, Earl, Arthur and Thorval Jr., all of Hatton; six sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Ruth) Ovrid of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Gilbert (Lillia) Groth of Hatton, Mrs. Lyle (Hannah) Kringlie of Grand Forks, Mrs. Parnell (Elsie) Hoveland of St. Helens, Ore., Mrs. Jack (Emma) Riley of St. Helens, Ore. and Mrs. Rosemary Peterson of Emerado. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest and one sister, Mrs. Fred Liljenberg.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 30 at 2:00 p.m. in the Goose River Lutheran Church, rural Hatton with Pastor Perry Wm. Bell officiating. Organist was Mrs. T.J. Thompson. Soloist was George Melby and his songs were ‘Evening Prayer’ and ‘The Lord’s Prayer.’ Military rites were by Carroll O. Flesche Post #70 Hatton American Legion.
