Earl R. Stavens, 90, Hatton, ND passed away Friday, August 17, 2007 at the Tri County Health Center, Hatton, ND.

Earl R. Stavens was born September 27, l9l6, at at his family's home, Pleasant Valley Farm, in Newburgh Township, Hatton, ND, the son of Thorvald and Cora (Hove) Stavens. He was baptized and confirmed in the Little Forks Lutheran Church. He attended rural school in Newburgh Township and grew to manhood in the Hatton community.

Earl attended the Skroch Flying School at Fargo and worked at the Gene Ellingrud Flying Service at Mayville, ND. He received his first airplane ride with Carl Ben Eielson. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Army Air Corp.

He married Eunice Weeks on June 17, l948 at Crookston, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Hatton where he worked at Bjerke Chevrolet and Hatton Ford and for many years with Krabbenhoft Chevrolet in Northwood as salesman. Eunice died on June 27, l989.

Earl made his home in Grand Forks from l996 until becoming a resident at the Tri County Health Center in 2004. He was a member of the St. John Congregation, Civil Air Patrol, Flying Farmers and the Hatton American Legion and VFW. He is survived by one son, Robert Stavens, Grand Forks, two grandchildren, Dylan and Matthew, Grand Forks, one brother, Art (Bev) Stavens, Hatton, ND 5 sisters Ruth Ovrid, Seattle, Washington, Hannah (Lyle) Kringlie, Grand Forks, ND Emma Riley, St. Helens, Oregon, Elsie (Parnell) Hovland, Columbia City, Oregon, Rosemary Peterson, Hatton, ND, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Gilman, Ernest, Edwin, Thorvald Jr., and sisters Esther Lilljenberg and Lila Groth. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. in the St. John Lutheran Church at Hatton, ND. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 on Monday, August 20 with a 7:00 prayer service at the Tri County Health Center at Hatton, ND.

The interment will be in the St. John Cemetery, Hatton, ND. The Bilden Funeral Home, Northwood is in charge of arrangements.
