Funeral services for Mrs. Thorval (Cora) Stavens Sr. are to be held today, Thursday afternoon, September 26 at 2 o’clock p.m. in Little Forks Lutheran Church, rural Hatton. Rev. Julian Erickson will officiate. A vocal duet will be sung by Rev. and Mrs. Carl J. Field. Mrs. Goodwin Owen will be organist. Interment will be in Little Forks Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Mark Stavens, Robert Stavens, Troy Stavens, Robert Kringlie, Gilbert Groth and Lynn Groth, all grandsons.
Mrs. Stavens was born June 10, 1892 in Worth County, Northwood, Iowa. She died September 22 at Union Hospital, Mayville.
Her parents were the late John S. and Randi (Fedge) Hove. She was baptized July 3, 1892 and confirmed June 2, 1907 at Northwood, Iowa. She attended school and grew to young womanhood in Northwood. She married Thorval Stavens March 29, 1916 at Albert Lea, Minn. They farmed in Newburgh Township near Hatton. Mr. Stavens died November 2, 1951. She was a member of Little Forks Lutheran church and an honorary member of its ALCW.
Surviving are three sons, Earl Stavens, Thorval Stavens Jr. and Arthur Stavens, all of Hatton; four daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Hannah) Kringlie, Grand Forks; Mrs. Jack (Emma) Riley, St. Helens, Oregon; Mrs. Parnell (Elsie) Hovland of St. Helens, Oregon and Mrs. Leroy (Rosemary) Peterson, Emerado, N.Dak. Also surviving are three stepsons, Gilman, Ernest and Edwin Stavens, Hatton, and two step-daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Ruth) Ovrid, Seattle, and Mrs. Gilbert (Lillia) Groth, Hatton; 31 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Ferley, Northwood, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by 12 grandchildren and a step-daughter, Mrs. Fred (Esther) Liljenberg who died Nov. 20, 1971, and the following brothers and sisters: Lewis, Severt, Oscar, Joseph, Robert Hove and Emma Stavens, Inger Olson, Lizzie Benson and Betsy Hanson.
