Claranell "Tot" Covington departed this life and began a new journey in her heavenly home on April 3, 2015. She was born on October 8, 1935 at home in Friendsville, TN. In her colorful and adventurous 79 years, Tot was well known and loved by countless people and friends. She attended Friendsville and Porter High Schools and was a graduate of Baptist Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1956. After being a surgical nurse for many years at area hospitals, Tot did extensive volunteer work using her nursing skills as well as her gifted musical skills through many children and youth musicals and plays. Tot was an avid supporter and participant in the Senior Olympics. She competed throughout the states at the district and state levels as well as in the World Senior Games. Tot enjoyed any kind of competition, and absolutely squeezed the juice out of life!! She will be missed by all that had the privilege to know her! Tot was preceded in death by: Parents, Ernest & Delia (Campbell) Thompson; Husband, Herman (Ferdie) Covington; Infant Daughters, Cynthia & Catherine Covington; Sister, Iris (Rene) Sevigny and Joan (Bob) Gibson. She is survived by: Son, Chris (Brenda) Covington; Grandson, Caleb (Jenna) Covington; Sister, Tykey Truett; numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM, Monday, April 27, 2015 at Smith Trinity Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Pellissippi Foundation Music Scholarship Program, www.pstcc.edu/foundation/scholarships. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville.
