Elsie May Churchfield Barnett Hudson, a 92-year-old resident of Castleford, passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 1, 2006, at the Cedar Draw Living Center.

Elsie was born May 26, 1914, in Deeth, Nev., the the daughter of John Roy and Laura Duval Churchfield.

She attended schools at Pole Canyon in upper Ruby Valley, Clover Valley and Deeth, Nev. and in Buhl, Idaho. She traveled to Buhl in a Model T Ford in 1926 with her parents and siblings and settled in Buhl.

Elsie married Ivan C. Barnett on Dec. 23, 1931. Together they had one daughter, Loretta F. Barnett Wheeler. They were later divorced in 1934.

She worked for the Buhl Laundry and various other jobs, including housekeeper and as a cook for a children's camp to support herself and Loretta.

Elsie married Eugene "Gene" B. Hudson in Shoshone, Idaho, on Feb. 28, 1940. They had two daughters, Lois Ann Hudson Reynolds and Shirley Hudson. They resided in Buhl, later moving to Castleford where, in 1960, they bought and operated the Castleford Market.

Gene passed away on March 23, 1963, and Elsie continued to operate the store until 1967. She worked for Idaho Frozen Foods plant, Green Giant Food, plant and the King of Hart's Cafe.

After she retired in 1977, Elsie enjoyed traveling to Quartzite, Ariz., and the camping trips each year with Loretta and Vernon. She enjoyed gardening and loved to have family and friends stop by for a cup of coffee and her famous oatmeal cake.

Elsie is survived by her two daughters, Loretta F. Wheeler of Buhl and Shirley Hudson of Twin Falls; her brothers and sisters, Sim (Roberta) Churchfield of Boise, Idaho, Blanch (Edward) Graves of St George, Utah, Freaman (Jane) Churchfield of Ivins, Utah, Marvin (Julie) Churchfield of Elko, Nev., and Edna Ter Bush of St. George, Utah. Also surviving are five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Laura Churchfield; sister, Beulah Thompson; one infant brother; one daughter, Lois Ann Reynolds; her husband, Eugene "Gene" B. Hudson; and one great-grandson, Dustin Reynolds.
