Roel (Roy) Rios was born in Kingsville, Texas and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended local schools and recently graduated from Moody High School where he as a member of JROTC for three years. He was employed with Little Caesar's Pizza and would have attended Del Mar College.

He is survived by his mother, Thelma Hernandez Vera and stepdad Richard Vera, Sr. of Corpus Christi; his father, Mike Rios, Jr. and stepmother Rosario Rios of Kingsville. Roy leaves two brothers; Mike Rios, III of Kingsville and Jose Vera of Corpus Christi; his maternal grandmother Irene Gaitan and paternal grandmother Lydia Rios, both of Kingsville. He also had three stepbrothers and two stepsisters, several aunts, uncle, nieces, nephew, and lots of cousins.

Visitation and a rosary service were held Feb. 27 at Seaside Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Feb. 28 at Our Lady Of perpetual Help. Interment followed at Seaside Memorial Park.

"A 20-year-old man died Tuesday morning at Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial after he was thrown from the 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse he was driving at more than 100 mph and his skull was crushed, police said. Roel Rios was traveling west on South Padre Island Drive near Oso Bay, approaching Paul Jones Avenue, when he swerved to pass a 1987 Nissan Pathfinder traveling the same direction, police said. He was thrown from the passenger side of his vehicle when it struck the side of the Pathfinder."
