Harriet “Honey” Abramson, age 87, passed away November 15, 2015 at Zusman Hospice. Born November 27, 1927 in Detroit, MI to the late Ed and Sarah Fisher. She is preceded in death by her sister, Lois Bressler and her brother, Jerry Fisher. She is survived by her two daughters, Debra (Chan) Wang and Lisa Winkler, her former spouse, Marlin Abramson, her grandchildren, Jackson, Naomi, Lily, Mike and Mia, her grandniece, Jamie, grandnephews, Ben and Max and others.
Honey grew up in Columbus and graduated from South High School in 1945. She was a secretary to Rabbi Jerome D. Folkman for 12 years before moving to the Chicago area to raise her family. During this time she was the part-time Secretary-Treasurer of the Thistle Class Association (a boating organization). Honey came back home to Columbus in 2001. She volunteered at Wexner Heritage Village and the Jewish Historical Society for many years, receiving “Volunteer of the Year” awards from both organizations.
Honey also contributed greatly to the local music scene. She provided instruments for sing-alongs at Wexner events and at Johnson’s Ice Cream, and was well known for her “fancy pants” which she made for herself and others. Quiet and modest, Honey was incredibly strong, generous, giving much of her time to helping those around her. She will be remembered for her giving spirit and sweet nature.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday, November 17 at EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St. with Rabbi Michael Ungar officiating. Burial will follow at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at Honey’s residence Tuesday – Thursday evenings from 5pm - 8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zusman Hospice in her memory.
