She was born June 3, 1934, in Garden City, to William C. and Chelsea Marie Willson McElroy.
She attended Garden City schools, graduating from Garden City High School in 1952. She attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz., before moving to New York and enrolling in The Parson School of Design. She designed fashion clothing for several companies, and was known as Alexandria Lawrence and went by "Sasha." She was interested in the arts and world events.
Survivors include three sisters, Marta McElroy Goodman of Silver City, N.M., Bonnie C. Best of Tucson, Ariz., and Kathleen Bruchy of Garden City; two nephews, Grant Goodman and Tabot Tietjen; and five nieces, Mava Leigty, Lisa Racz, Malin Pererra, Rebecca Bruchy and Verdawna Sue Bruchy. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marjorie McElroy Nickum.
