Jerry Lee Johnson, 76, of Statesville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Gordon Hospice House.
Born in Alexander County on January 27, 1939, he was a son of the late Graham and Grace Sherrill Johnson. He graduated from Stony Point High School, where he was a noted baseball player, and married Nora Prichard, who survives.
He was a dedicated member of the National Guard for eight years. Mr. Johnson was a member of New Amity ARP Church, where he served many years as a deacon and elder. He was retired from Pepsi Cola after 35 years, followed by 20 years with Bell Construction Company.
He enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor, classic cars, the outdoors, and helping others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ray Johnson; a nephew, Jermiah Mitchell; his paternal grandparents, Ervin and Mary Johnson; and his maternal grandparents, Roy and Illa Sherrill.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are daughters, Lisa Duncan (Jimmy), Donna Johnson, and Debbie Johnson Hager; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Fox (Marty), all of Statesville. Also surviving are his brother, Bruce Johnson (Carolyn); a sister, Diane Mull (Greg) of Taylorsville; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and special family friends, Wayne Stout and Judy Hager.
Services celebrating Mr. Johnson’s life were conducted Sunday, November 22, 2015, officiated by Rev. Dr. Earl Linderman and Rev. Robert Sherer, at New Amity ARP Church, with internment in the church cemetery, with full military honors provided by Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail.
Active pallbearers were: Mike Honeycutt, Keith Sherrill, Bryant Chapman, Matthew Jones, Mike Johnson, and Jeff Martin.
Honorary pallbearers were employees of Bell Construction Company.
