Grace was the oldest of twelve children born to Roy Lee and Ila Estelle (Moose) Sherrill. She married Graham Dalton Johnson and they had four children: Billy Ray, Bruce, Shelia Diane and Jerry.

Grace S. Johnson

Grace Sherrill Johnson, 91, of Paul Payne Store Road, Taylorsville, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at her residence.

She was born in Alexander County April 29, 1916, the daughter of the late Roy Lee Sherrill and Ila Moose Sherrill. She was a retired textile worker and was a member of Elk Shoals ARP Church, where she served as a deacon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Graham Dalton Johnson; an infant son, Billy Ray Johnson; a grandson, James Jermiah Mitchell; three brothers, Renn Sherrill, Harold Sherrill, and Kenneth Sherrill; and one sister, Margaret "Blackey" Pope.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Johnson and wife Carolyn of Taylorsville and Jerry Johnson and wife Nora of Statesville; one daughter, Diane Mull and husband Greg of Taylorsville; three brothers, Tom Sherrill and wife Johnnie, Winfred "Redbone" Sherrill and wife Linda, and R.P. Sherrill and wife Faye, all of Stony Point; four sisters, Christine Honeycutt and husband David, Dorothy Martin, Nell Sherrill, and Marie Johnson, all of Stony Point; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Charles Pope of Newton; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Sherrill of Statesville.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 18, 2007, at Elk Shoals ARP Church with Dr. Earl Linderman and Rev. Walter Flemming officiating. Burial followed in the New Sterling ARP Church Cemetery.
