His death was reported in the Montgomery Advertiser on 13 Oct 1883 as follows:
Mr. James M. Robinson died on the Evans place, Hayneville beat, Saturday last, from the effects of a severe case of dysentery with which he had been prostrated a week or more. The deceased was about 35 years old. He was a native of Georgia, and several years ago came to this county, where he married Miss Anna [sic] Folmar. The wife and five children survive him. Mr. Robinson was an honest, hardworking farmer, and highly respected by all.
