Abelardo Sandoval, 82, passed away, Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in Lovington, New Mexico. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, November 30, 2015 at the 3rd and Central Church of Christ in Lovington. Interment will follow in the Lovington City Cemetery, in Lovington, NM. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel of Lovington, NM.
Abelardo was born on May 19, 1933 in Vado De Piedra, Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose Angel Valenzuela and Maria Sandoval. Abelardo married Socorro Zubia on November 23, 1953. They came to the United States together and in 1965 they moved to Lovington from Artesia to raise their family. He was of the Church of Christ faith. Abelardo worked for numerous years for the City of Lovington in maintenance and enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical. He was also a gifted woodworker. During his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include: his wife Socorro of the home, 4 sons: Noe Sandoval and wife Elsie, Carlos Sandoval, David Sandoval and wife Becky and Gilbert Sandoval and wife Stacy all of Lovington, NM; 6 daughters: Hilda Saenz of Rio Rancho, NM, Elena Wyatt of Albuquerque, Eva Quezada and husband Rene of Denver City, TX, Olivia Flores and husband Andrew of Albuquerque, Susana Clark and husband Joe, and Maggie Clayton and husband Lance both of Lovington, NM; 2 brothers: Ezequiel Valenzuela and wife Ofelia of Lovington, NM , Jose Angel Sandoval of Odessa, TX and 3 Sisters: Rita Carrasco of El Paso, TX, Alicia Mendoza of Pecos, TX and Yolanda Ronquillo of Odessa, TX. 26 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 sisters and a grandson; Homer Saenz Jr.
